Coming to Camp Wildman soon?
What you need to know for your next adventure
Prep
Seasonal variance
Camp Wildman is located in an area with a lot of snow which opens many doors for different activities that can be done.
In terms of Outdoor Adventure Skills you can work on:
This means that you need to be prepared by dressing for the weather. The week before you come, make sure to look at the expected weather and remind your members of what to expect.

Prep
Camp Ranger
Camp Wildman is maintained by a group of dedicated volunteers who help run and maintain the facilities.
A camp ranger will be in touch with you the week before your booking to coordinate with you and will also circulate through the camp. Let them know if you have any questions or need help at any time.
Would you like to help out as a camp ranger? Get in touch! We’re always looking for more dedicated volunteers to help maintain and improve Camp Wildman.

Nature happens
Camp Wildman is kept as close to untouched as possible.
Which means that visitors can be lucky and see skunks, racoons, porcupines, coyotes, foxes, bats and many others in their natural environment. Respect their space and they will respect yours.
Camp Wildman is a designated wetland which creates an ideal environment for mosquitos. Bug repellent and bug-proof clothing is a must in the warmer weather

Prep
KYBOs*
KYBO is an acronym meant to remind everyone to Keep Your Bowels Open even when having fun at camp.
Camp Wildman has pit toilets that are emptied on a regular basis this means that:
- anything that goes in the hole, isn’t retrievable
- you need to keep the door closed and the toilet lid down to keep smell to a minimum
Each KYBO building has two separate stall. The left stall is meant for standing up tasks and the right stall is for sitting that.
Make sure to clean up any mess you create or ask for help if you’re unable to take care of the issue yourself so that we can keep things clean for everyone.
Prep
Water
Potable water is available at the water shed near gate one. Bring your water jugs to fill up and take them back to your campsite for drinking and for fire control.
This is a great opportunity for practicing teamwork and to put together a sling to transport the large water containers or you can bring smaller ones if that’s your preference.
Please make sure not to leave the tap running as the flooding causes issues (especially when frozen in the winter) and wastes resouces.

Activity
Fires
Fires are one the best parts of camp! Great for cooking, learning and keeping warm. Each campsite is equipped with at least one fire ring. There are no grills or fire irons provided so please bring those if you plan on using them in your activities. Please make sure to have water on hand to put your fire out at the end of the day and never leave it unattended.
Firewood is available for sale, let your camp ranger know how much you would like and they’ll arrange it.

Some of the lovely flora you can find at Camp Wildman

Activity
Wide Games
There is a large open area available for wide games between gates 1 and 2 and a public park next to Camp Wildman.
Activity
Beach
There is a small public beach available a few minutes walk from gate 1 (straight down towards the water, you can’t miss it).
Please be mindful that there is private property on either side of the beach. Make sure to stay off the private property and keep the volume to a respectable level.

Activity
Obstacle Course
The obstacle course is often requested by returning members as the activity of choice. The hike is approximately ____ long and broken up by different obstacles.
Please be aware that access is dependent on weather and some of the obstacles are being repaired and so you should look over each obstacle to confirm its safety before use.

Note: Volume levels
Please be mindful of the residents of the area and other campers by keeping your volume level at a reasonable level so that everyone can enjoy the space. Adventuring can get unnecessarily difficult when you’re exhausted because you were kept up until the middle of the night due to excessive noise.
Activity
Pioneering
The large open areas and abundance of wood allows a lot of flexibility for pioneering adventures.
If you plan on using large amounts of wood for adventures please discuss with your camp ranger ahead of time.
This way we can be sure that the resources can be used sustainably.

Activity
Millar Campfire Pit
Camp Wildman is very luck to have a large area dedicated for Formal Campfires with a stage for performances built by our volunteers.
If you’d like to Link with other Groups for a Formal Campfire, let your camp ranger know so they can get you in touch with them.

Activity
Washing Up
Bring a basin or a collapsible sink to clean up your dishes after meals. Then hang them on a drying line (a perfect chance to practice knot tying!) in a mesh bag for quick and easy cleanup.
When done, strain out the large food particles and then dump the remaining liquid (known as grey water) down the toilet in the KYBO.
Before you leave
Leave no trace
Camp Wildman is a wild area so please make sure to stay on the trails, don’t move the firepits, do a sweep for garbage over your entire site before leaving and you’ll be able minimalise your effect on its untouched appeal.
If you have any plans for your adventure that might alter the landscape, please run them by your camp ranger before coming to camp.
